I think that's fair. Also if someone is too popular and I can just mail them and ask them to post it themselves, I will. People might not want their walls used as advertisements. I can get that.
Of course, if you REALLY don't want someone posting links on your wall - remove that fucking option. You have a FB Wall. You don't have to let other people post on it. And hell, most people are going to use your FB wall to post links and the like since that's what the damn thing is there for.
And if you are using FB to Social Network then what the fuck do you expect when other writers are on your friends feed? Yes. Some of my writer friends on FB are there because I met them and I like them. Some are there because I want to get to know them. But for the most part, we are all trying to advertise to each other. I am more than happy to post links to other people's books, Indiegogo campaigns, events, etc. If they want to post them on my wall, I will erase them if I don't like them and keep them up if I think that they are cool.
What I won't do is what Leverone did which was to write a long rant about how pissed he is that people are posting Indiegogo campaigns on his wall and how it's totally rude not to ask and how he was mortified that anyone would do that.
And while I'm sure that Leverone sells his self-published thrillers via telepathy and only telling his friends about his books after they get to know him really well and that it's a perfectly fine business model, I would think that he would understand that other people in the publishing field might want to sometimes and sporadically - I don't know - what's the word? - Promote their work?
I sure as fuck don't want to keep working on writing term papers for the rest of my life.
Of course, I also realized that I have no reason to have this guy as a friend on FB.
Actually, that's kind of sad. I mean really. You friend people on FB thinking that you can promote your stuff and maybe get to know them. They are on your FB feed for months or even years and you forget about them. And then when you want to post something on their wall - well that turns out to be the only reason why you wanted them on your FB feed in the first place.
I also just unfriended someone for posting a Benghazi meme with a bullshit picture of a dead body claiming that it was Stevens and the ever so popular "Peaceful Muslims did this" line that is total Islamophobic bullshit. The fact that the residents of Benghazi gathered to kick the Islamist militias out of their town the day after Stevens was murdered by these motherfuckers is completely ignored. I suppose those people weren't really Muslims. Who knew that there were so many Episcopalians in Libya?
